About Storyworth

Storyworth’s purpose is to help people record the meaningful stories of their life. We offer a service that helps people record their family stories and print them in beautiful keepsake books.

Our work is truly worthwhile. Many of our customers describe us as the best gift they’ve ever given or received. We bring people closer to the people who matter most to them, and the books we print will be passed down for generations.

We’re a sustainable business. Our business model is aligned with our customers’ interests. We’re cash flow positive with ample cash on hand, so we don’t need to fundraise. We’ve been around since 2012.

We’re an unusually small team for our revenue, and we intend to keep it that way. We get a lot done with little overhead by hiring thoughtfully and cultivating a close-knit team that collaborates effectively without an excess of meetings or busy-work. Our team is fully remote, spanning Italy to Hawai’i. While we do a lot of work asynchronously, we really enjoy our virtual time together to catch up and connect.

We’re adding a designer to help us reach more customers and deepen our relationships with them. We believe great design is ultimately what makes our company beloved and will help us to scale to impact millions.

About You

You’re an optimist and an all-around good human being. Life is short, and you want to work with people you like. You are kind, generous, and empathetic. You are honest and trustworthy. You want to work every day with positive people who make your day better.

You value time and freedom. You want your work in harmony with your life. You want to pick your kids up from school, go for a walk with a friend, care for your aging parents, and/or invest meaningful time in a personal passion. You’re comfortable working remotely. You want the option to move to a different state or country, for a few months or forever. You want a job that complements your life, not one that is in conflict with it.

You care deeply about doing great work. You are among the best at your craft. You have the choice of where to work and with whom, and you want to make sure that you’re doing something worthwhile. You hold yourself accountable, and the team can always rely on you to deliver, just as you can rely on them. You thrive when you are given responsibility and autonomy.

Your ideal outcome is a long term relationship. You’re looking to settle into a great company, get to know a product well, and do better and better work as you gain experience. Life happens and plans change, but you think of the opportunity as open-ended.

The Role

You’ll own the end-to-end design process. You’re a versatile product designer, and excel in supporting the full range of the design and development process: understanding the problem space, exploring a wide range of ideas, creating high-fidelity mockups / prototypes to communicate your vision. You’ll partner with engineers throughout the development cycle through to release, including hands-on QA.

You value craftsmanship. You have a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality and simplicity. Your experience enables you to efficiently produce high-quality designs. You understand that little things matter, and it’s all about the right features with just the right footprint. You take pride in delivering polished work that enhances the user experience and reflects our brand well.

You deeply understand customer needs. We serve a wide range of customers, from teens to centenarians. You’ll be challenged to design solutions in a way that works for people with very different levels of tech savviness. You actively seek to understand and empathize with people’s needs and behaviors. This informs how you solve a problem, and also helps you to identify new opportunities.

You have strong product sensibilities. You possess a strong understanding of the business landscape and the product ecosystem. You know how to balance design investment with expected returns. You follow through on projects after launch to understand actual impact. Your strategic approach helps us create impactful products that align with both customer and business needs.

You’ll work on core features used by all our customers, and on new products that you’ll shape from scratch. There’s much to do on all our products that will have major impact on our customers and our business. We have a product roadmap driven by design and engineering, and you’ll have a say in what we do and how we do it. You’re excited to bring in new insights and experiment with new technologies to create the best experience for our customers.

You thrive in a small team where you can earn trust to work autonomously. We’re a distributed, highly asynchronous team. You can get a lot done quickly without supervision, knowing when and how to coordinate with colleagues. You communicate clearly and concisely both in meetings and in type.
